BossMan Dlow Bronx Concert reviews
good value for the ticket price
My daughter and I continued our regular Sunday afternoon tradition by heading to the casino show room last Sunday for a show and using some of my free rooms to stay the night. They charge low prices for 3pm shows and bring in older acts, making it a good value. The lineup this time included BossMan Dlow, Drifters, and Dixie Cups. We scored $10 tickets and managed to snag seats in the 5th row, a great deal!
The Dixie Cups started off the show with their hits “Chapel of Love” and “Iko Iko”, along with a couple of other songs. They wrapped up their 20-minute set with “God bless America” and “When the Saint Go Marching In”. Even though these ladies are in their 70s, 2 out of the 3 are original members, which was pretty cool. Their harmonies were impressive, exceeding my expectations. The 20-minute performance felt just right.
This was my 5th time seeing a version of the Drifters, more like a tribute band or a “franchise”. I once saw 3 different versions of them playing in Vegas simultaneously. I caught 2 of them! There have been up to 7 different versions worldwide. As long as you know not to expect any original members, it’s all good. The group put on an entertaining show, covering most of their hits like “Save the Last Dance for Me” and “Under the Boardwalk”, and even did a cover of “What a Wonderful World”. I believe they played for about 40 minutes.
The show closed with the Coasters, another band with 2 or 3 versions. None of the versions have any original members that I know of. Despite their ongoing disputes over the band name rights, they still delivered a high-energy performance with lots of dancing and audience interaction. Although I preferred more of the Drifters’ material, the Coasters rightfully headlined. Their biggest hits included “Yakety Yak”, “Charlie Brown”, and “Poison Ivy”, along with covers like “Love Potion Number 9” and “Shake Rattle and Roll”. Their set ran for around 45-50 minutes, just perfect for the occasion.
My daughter and I had a blast dancing and singing along to the songs during the show. Afterwards, we had the chance to meet the Dixie Cups and Coasters and get their autographs. We then enjoyed dinner and watched Disney DVDs in the complimentary hotel room, which was very nice. It was definitely worth taking Monday off! We even received a free breakfast at the Paris Café in the hotel.
The Winstar casino boasts a fantastic show room with a convenient entrance right by the show room, allowing us to bypass much of the casino crowd. I’m already planning to treat my daughter to an Elvis impersonator show this summer.
